Overview Nain Rugs

Nain rugs - finest and noblest rugs from the Persian oasis city

Rugs from the city of Nain have a uniquely luxurious character. This type of oriental rug very often combines light beige tones with a dark blue tone. Thus, the colors of Nain are a characteristic of this particular type of Persian rug. By buying a Nain rug, you will bring the noble flair to your home.

Nain, the city in the heart of Iran

Nain is a small city in the Persian province of Isfahan. Formerly known for the production of woven coats, weavers from Nain also started knotting rugs at the beginning of the 20th century. The Nain patterns are very similar to the Isfahan rugs. However, the colors differ significantly. Nain rugs are mostly knotted from lighter white-beige colors in combination with a strong blue. Besides blue Nain rugs, it is rare to find some that are knotted in shades of red, rose or even green. The pattern usually consists of an ornament in the center of the rug, often decorated with intricately entwined floral illustrations. Because of the bright colors and gorgeous patterns, Nain rugs give a room a very upscale and classy ambiance while still being suitable and durable for everyday use.

Qualities 6 Lah and 9 Lah

For Nain oriental rugs has developed its own quality standard. This makes it easier to categorize the rugs and to judge their quality. They are knotted not only in the city of Nain itself, but also in the surrounding countryside, so a uniform standard was necessary to ensure the high standards. Nain rugs are traditionally divided into 6 La and 9 La - rarely they also exist in 4 La or in 12 La. La denotes the thread thickness of the warp. The finer the warp, i.e. the finer the threads of the base fabric of the rug, the more closely woven and filigree the virgin wool and silk can be interwoven on the warp. The finer the threads are spun for the warp, the tighter-meshed and thinner it will be in the end. A particularly tight warp requires a higher number of knots than less fine warps. A 6 La rug (i.e. a particularly fine rug) is therefore often knotted on a silk warp and can accommodate a particularly large number of knots. Only the best virgin wool from the lower neck of sheep, also known as cork wool, is used for the pile. The particularly light parts of the Nain rug are knotted from silk. Therefore, most Nain rugs have a silk content of about 10% in the pile.

The weavers of Persian Nain rugs

Among the Nain rug manufacturers, the Habibian master manufactory has earned an extremely exclusive reputation. From the beginning, its founder Fathollah Habibian focused on a quality that had never been achieved before. The Nain Habibian has almost become a brand itself. An original Hain Habibian is therefore much higher in value. For clear identification Nain Habibian rugs are provided with a knotted signature of the manufactory. In the villages surrounding Nain, Kashmar and Tabas, rugs are also knotted in the same pattern. These are mostly 9 La Nain rugs, or rather a bit lower in quality. The Nain Kashmar and the Nain Tabas are additionally named in the trade with their villages of origin.
